I was having a conversation with a guy I had just recently met and the inevitable question came up, “So what do you do for a living?”
He had been working as a manager at a local department store and didn’t sound too enthused by it. I went on to tell him about my businesses and mentioned that I also trade stocks and options.
He immediately GASPED!
“O wow! I can’t believe you do that. That sounds so risky. How do you do it? I could never do that!”
I just chuckled and said, “Ya, it's fun” and moved on from the conversation...but here is what I wanted to tell him.
We all need to understand this one fact. Every single one of us are TRADERS. I have chosen to trade money for a potential bigger exchange of money back. He has made the decision to trade TIME for a small predetermined sum of money back.
I will never, in any circumstances go back to trading my time for a measly paycheck and here’s why. TIME is the most valuable resource in the whole world!
When he said he was a department store manager, I GASPED inside and in my head, I was thinking, “O wow! I can’t believe you do that. That sounds so risky. How do you do it? I could never do that!”
Trading money is so freeing because it’s a renewable resource that if I lose it, I just go get it back through all the skills I have learned. But trading time...you will NEVER get that back. Ever.
I absolutely love the movie “In Time” with Justin Timberlake where time is the currency and the wealthy live forever. It has a great message that we all need to take more into consideration.
It’s not risky one-bit trading money in the stock market. What is risky is you decide to trade your time (that you will never get back) for a life of security.
It’s all perspective.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
(Just my 2 cents. Not saying quit your job today. But work that job as a means to an end. Not to climb the stupid ladder)
Stay Disciplined,
